Saying it with flowers

The temporal nature of plants is much like ours says biblical wisdom, although they are wonderfully made, their existence is brief, much like ours. A here today, gone tomorrow kind of thing when measured against the span of ages & an eternal God. The Maker reveals a particular perspective for us to appreciate. He wants us to understand our measure & limits, getting a grip of reality rather than filling our minds with a distorted perception that may lead us astray.

We are perishable, but then the imperishable comes, He is holy & reveals the fulfilment of prophecies & a kingdom to come. Faith in God is not a delusion, it is a dimension & a gift, often open to ridicule & rebuke, scorned by a world in opposition to God which in its enmity refuses the richness, beauty & truth found in Christ. Although on earth for only a moment in human form His Kingdom comes…The power of Grace is sown in weakness, humility & death, then to rise in power & glory (1 Cor 15: 35- 58).

This is the wonder of Easter that speaks to many a heart… softened by the Saviour, life anew begins, bursting forth with joy in the Lord… Happy Easter

For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” 1 Peter 1: 24 & 25

beyond the shore

“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles…Matt 4:15

It is here that Jesus begins to preach repentance; the kingdom of God is near. 2000 years & counting & the church, the body of Christ, people of faith, testify to the mercy of God in a world infused with an inner darkness & remnants of a spiritual light that is not enough to save us, the fall has taken its toll & we need help.

God has not changed, in His holiness, justice is required. In sending His only Son we see the only way to God. As much as God is just he has also shown mercy. God’s timing reveals His divine character in human form & His supernatural ability through miracles, healing & proclamation over the forgiveness of sins.

The gospel of repentance brings peace with God, what was lost in the garden is found in Christ. His saving power begins here on earth, waving & rippling through our lives. Some think it wise to hold on to the darkness anchored in our being. Not the disciples however, trusting in the voice of the Saviour they turn from a former way of life to embrace God the Son.

The voice of God calls today also, instructing us to turn from the darkness, to turn from our life of sin. That which does not measure up to Gods ways is sin. It’s no good pointing to everybody else’s failing as an excuse, what of you, what of your heart & life asks God, where will you drop anchor for your soul, in the darkness or the light…

A long & winding road

The recorded accounts revealing the life of Christ the teacher, Christ the saviour & risen Lord has been transported throughout various lands & peoples. The influence of the gospel is unique, revealing the one & only God, maker of heaven & earth across oceans to islands & continents.

Amidst theories, legends & myths of human origin comes truth by the way of the Spirit, with all the comings & goings of peoples, cultures & beliefs… one stands alone. Scripture is uncompromising as it reveals the one eternal God, past, present & future.

It’s a hard thing to appreciate a perfect plan of salvation is underway at present unable to be thwarted, yet Scripture harkens us to take heed. The mind shaped, moulded & conformed by unbelief declares impossible… the mind influenced by Christ & infused with faith says it is so, God is in control, every twist, and every turn has a purpose as the nations are given the opportunity to respond to the message of Christ, the author life.

The Good Shepherd

I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. Ezekiel 34:16

God is into justice…but also mercy. Survival of the fittest is not favoured by God. The outfall from the sin of humanity changed the landscape dramatically for animal & human alike, hardship & enmity have been part & parcel of earths story ever since.

This is no excuse to do wrong though, God requires community to live in brotherly & sisterly love, it is all for one & one for all. It was part of the OT priest’s job description to serve humbly, but they had wandered severely, corrupting what the nation was meant to value & display day to day. God, who knows all things & is active each day & night, is moving & He shares His intent that the people may know.

It is no different for the church today, the message of salvation in Christ alone requires believers to act justly & love mercy in light of the Word. Our broken lives have been restored in a humbling way. We have been shown a great kindness & are required to do likewise. The breath of God fills us with life anew but we still need encouragement, guidance & care, words & actions working as one.

Reliance from Colossians 2

With the aid of maintenance & careful planning some things gain an additional life span. But, like this world, our bodies & much of what we love has a use by date. Philosophies & Era’s come & go leaving traces of their influence & glory.

Many would claim this of the Bible & the Christian faith also as the world becomes more influenced by shifting values based on sexuality & individualism rather than on a timeless spiritual truth. As far as society goes, what once was major has become minor.

The bluff of evolution is no different to the false gods of this world where people give reverence & honour to something that is not real. Its mixture of alleged billions of years with many unknowns may as well be something carved of wood & worshiped.

We need to be careful about what we believe & why we believe, says the Bible, maintaining our lives in such a way that it follows the maker’s instructions. Come what may, the promises made to Abraham & the coming of Christ, are things we can rely on, now & forever.

Book Review

66 books in all, many chapters… The Author displays a timeless wisdom that is suited to every age & any age. This collaboration of Supernatural & natural forces has its share of mysteries but much is revealed. The pages grounded in reality speak with an authority that blends justice, mercy & hope for a world that has fallen & lost its way. This book goes against the ingrained nature of humanity that seeks to find redemption within the mind & self, yet miraculously, many are drawn to its amazing depth of grace, beauty & purity that reaches its fulfilment in a kingly son who lays aside His majesty & eventually his life, in order that others undeservedly might live….

If you dwell on planet earth & value patient planning, timeless wisdom, binding love, commitment, songs, growing in obedience, encouragement, wise warnings, building for a better day to come & a glimpse of the future then the pages of this book could be for you. It has a lamp like quality that brings light & life to the devoted reader.

Abba Father

There are times in our lives & days when we need to wait on God, patiently trusting in the one who alone is trustworthy. Although always present, He reveals himself like the cool of evening after a hot stuffy day. Parental, fatherly & motherly intent, giving encouragement, lovingly & tenderly so. God refreshes, renews & restores in a historical context throughout the ages regarding His family (the church/body of Christ) but also on the personal level, in our hearts, wherever we may be. Sick in bed, busy at work, studying at school or university, a trip here or there, etc.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  1 John 3:1

Good news

Good news…the believer in Christ has been given immense pleasure & joy, sadly it can be missed due to our unbelief, doubts & fears. Ignorant criticism & cynicism do not give God the benefit of the doubt & God’s spiritual opponent, the devil, who took a significant defeat at the hands of Jesus, is out for a spat of revenge while he can. Not only that, we each have our very own self that exists in our old nature which at times seeks to oppose the new work begun in our mortal bodies. Two against one hardly seems fair if we forget that God is on our side & His character is such that he cannot & does not forsake...

In the sunshine, wind & rain of our experience God is present, His Word & Spirit are there to guide. Ending up in the rough or trapped in the hollow of sand or a deep body of water doesn’t mean we can’t make it to the green. The journey & the destination each have certain significance for the believer& God can & does turn things to our inevitable good. Our poor choices are no match for God’s great love revealed in Jesus, keep your eyes fixed on Him, says the writer to the Hebrews…
