Free as a bird...

Yes... some people have that "happy go lucky" attitude or persona, nothing seems to bother them so much or hold them down, they are, as they say, free as a bird. Free as a secular society or system without religion one could say. The religion of no religion seeks to obtain great heights but in the end death still has its sting, apart from Christ.

birds of the air

The thin edge of a small portion of a vast aray of feathered creatures.

Humans in orbit

In reality this is a first & third world problem, but given the amount of dialogue in print, audio or visual, that bombards the mind space of our lives & society I figure the first world is very much accountable or doubly so if output is anything to go by.

No its not global warming climate change it’s the ability to pump out blame & error at the expense of recognising our own situation or past sins, living as if we are getting away with it as Joseph’s brothers had done so until a series of events lined up more spectacularly than some planets due to the hand of God.

Extra reading (not too much) required...

The Ugly Duck

It’s not always others that may bring us down by hurtful or hateful words. At times it may be our own failings & seeing no big change we may wonder if things are set to stay this way as we slog it out on a not so golden pond…what’s up (or down) Charlie Brown.

As much as the shirt could become a favourite Scripture reminds me to put on the life taught pattern of Christ. Col 3:10. Looking to the day to come also when the promises of God with the final fulfilment of a better & perfect place in the sweetest communion & gladness of heart come from the maker of all things good. 1 Cor 2:9 & 2 Cor 5:2

A time to be cool & a time to be uncool

Ecc 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

Let’s face it…life is more than a fashion statement. Functionality, which would be design, purpose & cost (for most of us) have a lot to do with daily living. But add a little competitive spirit to the equation & before you know it people are willing to suffer for their art in order to feel some comfort or superiority or both & little becomes big on the slippery slope of me, me, it’s all about me.

Thankfully & by God’s grace in Christ we have been given a new understanding. The humility of Jesus & the love of God doesn’t require the limelight of elegance, the red carpet of perfection or the latest & greatest part plastic part glass contraption in order to be where it matters. After all, we are living in more than a material world declares Scripture. Ecc 12:13-14. Whether you’re rich or poor, some things are far more precious & lasting.

The New Church and State

CHURCH SCIENCE & STATE

Some people go to great lengths in order to discredit the Bible. It would not surprise me in the least if Zoroastrianism was introduced into secular school education one way or another in order to create another myth that equally sits alongside evolution & deity (the ruling elite) by consensus....Secular Ethics, the new religion.

This scenario would fit nicely within the humanistic push of late to esteem humankind while blaming religion for all or most of the trouble in the world. It’s just one more way in order to whip up a storm with lots of smoke & mirrors.

The truth is evolution has more in common with Zoroastrianism than the Bible… survival of the fittest, militant & harsh disciples of Dawkins seeking to hook you by the nose & drag you along their path of logic.Hopefully they recall that God also had Babylon covered. Greece & Rome also as they shared their fifteen minutes of fame on the eternal time line.

An article of interest on how they get the story across the line without it even starting to begin with, anything is possible with imagination & evolution it would seem.

Terracotta Warriors

A domestic terracotta jar doing a domestic function would hardly seem inspirational or iconic. Yet the fragile vessel contains a treasure beyond the cost of earthly measure or the attainment of human aspiration. Through the church of Christ God testifies to the peoples of the earth. Amongst all our failings, weakness & fragility God is pleased to work, demonstrating a patience & skill beyond even the most impressive things of human achievement. Jars of clay carry the good news of the gospel. There is hope in this world, true hope & lasting hope to be found in Christ & Christ alone, everything else will be no more & all things new will take their place in the restoration.

2 Cor 4: 1-18

Learning the ropes of faith

Moments of rest, anchored & still
By the shore a gentle wash sounds

She will sail again on the tide to distant shores
As in life, so in death...Eternity waits

It's a bugs life

I find it a wonderful thing these tiny lime green  insects not only imitate plant cells but they also position themselves in just the right spot so as to appear part of the plant structure. Each time I moved into a spot close to the bug it would move just a little bit more around the diameter of the stem.

Apart from the science angles that we could project, Scripture is not without its observations of creation as it reveals something about God or humanity in analogy, functionality, intensity, beauty & warning among other stuff.

God is both practical & revealing as He provides Scripture & His world for our education slash sanctification as we grow in grace. He tells us where we belong & who we should be connected to.

Jn 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

It’s not that God wants to spoil our fun or thwart us of our individuality, He gives what is best for our good as any loving parent would.

Reason vs no reason

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Heb 1:1-2

People on an almost daily basis will mention that something that happened to someone or something somewhere were lucky or unlucky. Some sort of freakish unexplainable occurrence of no particular purpose unravels a billionfold across earth as people do their thing. In a way is evolution good luck or bad lack or bad luck & good luck evolution, a ying & yang of biology or genetics & all that speculative stuff that hits the headlines for a moment only to fade into a world of obscurity.

Scripture on the other hand reveals that there is purpose behind each day & night that reaches an inevitable final & definite conclusion. God will bring all things about according to His wisdom, timing & judgement. God’s provenance & providence although disputed by many & contested throughout the ages continues unhindered. It’s the way it is says Scripture.

Walk like a Hebrew

This is a little three minute animation summarising a portion of the life of Joseph & picking up on his “sea change” in Egypt. Many say “what a guy” (which may translate, I could never be anything like that ) when it comes to the Apostle Paul…Well Joseph in the hand of God has some admirable stuff when it comes to godliness & Christ likeness also for our encouragement.

No matter who we are in Christ, we are called to be imitators of God. Eph 5:1

Australian Gothic

An iconic Father’s day in 2014

I like my dad, I love my dad. I don’t know when I first got to know him in the nature, nurture & developmental stages of my being. I suppose I got to know him as a parent first of all more than a person if that makes any sense. Over time it’s been a story here & story there, a conversation here, a conversation there (not Old McDonald’s farm) for the profile to unfold & reveal more of my dad. The relationship I have with dad is personal, unique & purpose built, a bit like a barn with a lot of family & community playing its part.

Not Australian Gothic(an exception)
American Gothic (1930) Grant Wood

"All the good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow." Grant wood

And sort of rural more than Gothic so I guess the barn is symbolic of hard work,
particularly on the land but this would also be true of a womans tasks
in the home or further away....
but sheds are often considered blokey or part of the male domain,
either way, Iowa it aint, this is Australia.

Usher

In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for disposal of refuse. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Tim 2:20-21.

The aim, I think or deduce, in this small passage is to aim for the shiny bits. In Scripture gold & silver can be presented as completely worthless & of no value in regards to Salvation. So easily it can become an idol or object of trust that takes the place of, or attention away from the Living God & His living Word. You can’t take it with you…unless you’re inclined to think like the Egyptian Pharaohs. I haven’t seen it for a while but every now & then an image would appear in a documentary of lots of smashed jars of clay. I suspect living in a very, very, throwaway society has robbed us of some meaningful ancient concepts as we experience the need to continually recycle, renew or repair. Be that as it may, here silver & gold objects are given a place of honour & purpose by the master of the house (No, not the plastic TV remote).

It goes deeper than pomp & ceremony…there are just some things that are crafted for specific tasks, tasks that the clay & wood are not fit for. In the first place this is Paul instructing Timothy for Christian ministry…a pastoral letter along the lines of a Royal Priesthood, yet all believers share in this holy nation, this blessed body of Christ & His blessed Word. The Dynasties of world views that inhabit the earth & occasionally space will one day cease to be but Christ's eternal rule will be forever & ever amen. Heb. 8:9-13.
