You are what you eat, it is said. The flamingo is a classic example of the way things we feed on can colour us to a point. While with the pink bird it is pigmented feathers, with humans, in a spiritual sense, it can show in how we speak, act & dress.

As the crimson, white & black grapes depend on the vine to sustain them for the purpose of life & fruit so it is with the human connection. To have life & to produce effectively in a way that is pleasing to God requires Jesus Christ to be the very centre & focus of our life.

It’s in Him & with him that our lives begin anew, being grafted in we start to branch, blossom & grow. John 15:1-17.

Our daughter, on the way home from Europe via South America has brought home a file full of photo's. She really enjoyed getting up close to the flamingo's & she has given me access to her images so I have been exploring some graphics options to enhance.

Run Reginald Run

If you buy a fridge you get a free frozen turkey says the advertising, no mention of Thanksgiving though here in Australia, although I did notice a picture of President Obama & a big turkey yesterday somewhere on a webpage.

Turkeys & Thanksgiving are big in America, Halloween too which seems to be getting some traction here in Australia, but thanksgiving not so much. As an admirer of Norman Rockwell’s illustrations I usually picture a family meal or the saying of "grace" when thinking of thanksgiving but today stumbled across “Cousin Reginald” who has let the Turkey get the better of him. So if you will pardon my creative angle I am now in a “frozen” the movie moment, & the song is not “let it go” but “don’t let it go” & the city boy is lacking the assertive & magical quality of yesterday, tomorrow & fantasy...fear & flight vs flight & fight. Bird 1, Human 0, but the game is not over yet.

As a young child I still have a recollection of a headless chook (chicken) doing the bolt after having its head taken off by an axe back in the days when preparing a meal was more focused on DIY at my Grand Parents. Real life with family can be difficult & painful, but also full of blessing & adventure.

This week we are celebrating two birthdays in our family & awaiting the return of our eldest daughter who has been overseas for the last 2.5 years as well as catching up with inlaws & cousins who will be travelling long distance. Many reasons to give thanks to God.

Not alone

We had a Scripture lesson yesterday & we looked at the angels appearing to the shepherds regarding the birth of Jesus & Him being found in a manger. The Angels are messengers, high visibility posties delivering messages from God. The Christmas message, the natural & supernatural coming together, like the southern & northern hemisphere icons of Christmas time crossing over...worlds collide. Santa with sunglasses & surfing on a crashing wave that sweeps towards the shoreline & pure white fashioned snowmen with sticks &  scarves surrounded by intricate snow flakes that hold amazing design & structure fall down to the ground.

Spiritually though, no matter the continent, no matter the zone, the gospel of redemption is for each & every corner of the world, God culture for the nations. The coming of Christ was truly a godsend.

Starry Starry Night

[Credit must of course go to Vincent van Gogh & Don Mclean on this one.Two major influences in the outcome of this creative piece. And God most of all for all His gifts to us.]

Starry, starry night, paint your palette/pallet green & white.

I really like art & craft. Working within grocery shops & industry being close by I am able to access lots of stuff (this is good/me & not good/wife). At times our garage gets to be more like a maze or labyrinth. Yesterday I made a tiny dent in my pallet collection & created a Christmas tree. Last night as the evening cooled after a very hot day I got to work on some images that I may use for a Scripture class at a local school depending on how things pan out.

Christmas time in Australia in the middle of summer is a bit bizarre with its northern hemisphere icons of Santa Claus, Snowmen & snowflakes among other things like reindeer, elves, holly & ivy. I noticed an internet drama in Holland last week with racial implications regarding ‘Black Pete’ who has connections with St Nicholas (but not Santa apparently), things can get complicated at times.

Like when the wise men followed the unusual or significant star that led them to the Saviour via King Herod [ Matthew 2:1-18 ]. Stars are something we can all relate to, no matter our geographical situation. Whether it’s the magnified balls of gas & colour spotted via a telescope, otherwise the twinkling ones visible to the eye way up there in the heavens with its many dark & deep mysteries that span time, place & space.

The wise men/Magi were not too heavenly minded though, what they found was below the star in the lowliest of places. So as many delight in the gifts below the tree under the star, so the wise men delighted & worshipped in the one below the star of significant light.

For unto us a child is born [Isaiah 9:6]

On the wrong side of time

Biblically speaking, life is but a breath [Psalm 62:9]. That may take a bit of convincing for those who monitor the progress or lack of it when it comes to measuring devices as they await a particular time in a particular place [Been there, done that & probably will again] but the Hebrew [Gods promise to Abraham. Gen 12:1-9] poetry rings true in the span of things no matter how many times we may try to stop the clock or race against time. Many clever crimes have been attempted too by trying to create a false time line.

How we can long for things is part of who we are. Wrongly though we often long for what we do not need. Things that may in fact bring us down or into harm in more ways than one. Thankfully, time & again, God’s timeless Word comes in timely fashion to direct us in what really matters most, even as countless thousands seek to mess with our minds.

I observe many things where time is rightly considered to be of the essence, in the Bible & in life. Yet often enough a car may speed past at a hurrying pace only for me to meet up with it down the track at the next set or so of traffic lights.

In the span of things God is of the essence.

Time flies

I watched a brief interview between Keller, Carson & Piper yesterday regarding "History"

& last night I was doodling [on Picasa 3, Corel Paint Shop Pro 4 (mainly to create PNG images/files & Microsoft Powerpoint] with some images. Along with Gods Word & asking for His blessing on my work this is todays effort plus some extra preliminary images.

It was dead & on a pin

In flight theology

2 Peter 3:1-18. In this passage of time, truth & text we travel the span from the ordered creation, the catastrophic flood then the cataclysmic end of earth, fire & rain with magnitude & purpose. In our travels things should become apparent as life appears to go on without divine intervention…

God is patient & working salvation, day & night.

We are to seek to live lives that are holy & godly, day & night.

There is an element of warning in this also, as if to say, be on guard when it comes to scoffers. This is no light & easy text for the church of God. While He gives us our joy, humour & blessings, maybe in sickness or in health, He gives us our warnings also. Father like, mother like, shepherd like...

Last month this large Wedge tailed Eagle managed to carry away a baby Magpie chick at Bolwarra/Maitland/NSW. At home we often get magpies in our yard & feed them small portions of raw meat at times which they carry back to the nest to feed their young. They can often be seen with beaks full of bugs & insects from our garden too. As much as I delight in the eagle & its maker it gave me no joy to see the magpie chick carried away for food.

In a forest of text

My wife, whom I love more than I can say, has had me making a bookish tree. It is for her Christmas display in the School library. After making a real sculpture out of old disused books I decided that some of our good books could be photographed & manipulated into a forest image.

Along with that I have included an owl (Barn Owl/Ghost bird) which is often associated with wisdom (Ancient Greece) or scholarly/academic stuff.

Like water

See, my servant will act wisely, he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him- his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness - so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.Isaiah 52:13-15

The sprinkling of water on a thirsty & heat oppressed garden is something easily understood. No water, no life. So it is with Christ, without Him we are nothing. With Him is to be revived & given strength…New life, everlasting life, everlasting love.

Baptism as a symbol is similar again. The sprinkling of water demonstrates a washing away that produces a cleansing. While the shedding of blood (on the cross) has its gore, drama & brutality the outcome is a cleansing that transforms deep crimson to a white purity that is without blemish. Psalm 51:7

Isaiah 40:1-31

Ground control & a Sovereign God

It was supposed to land here

It can be hard to get a good park at times. Hopefully it’s not in a no standing zone. I took my youngest daughter for her first driving lesson yesterday so I can sympathise with taking on new territory. Getting it just right can take much practise no matter how well you understand something with the intellect, particularly right gear & right speed before entering a corner & arm & hand movement on the wheel. It takes me back…I also ran out of fuel a few times taking my fuel supply to the limit.

Its clever & all that, but I see stuff here on earth just as, if not more amazing. Probably simple everyday stuff that humanity takes for granted as we go from one thing to another. Today is Sunday, we will head off to church & connect with God & His church. The light of the world in a dark place. It also has its failings yet there is no place I would rather be. God makes things also, things that I may rejoice in every day & always.

Bluesfest & Muddy Waters

The origin of the blues

Original sin is a consequence of broken trust & a relationship that has gone well & truly down the drain. Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away…Suddenly death enters the landscape & the light that beamed in the heart of humankind has been snuffed out. If Eve or Adam thought nothing was going to change their world, they now know better but are never the less helpless to do anything else about it, try as they might. Death & Decay become part of our DNA & clothing part of our protection.

While humanity is often swamped with the evolutionary narrative

There is an origins debate that also exists within Christendom regarding just how lost is lost & just how saved is saved when it comes down to the sons of Adam & the daughters of Eve. The Canons of Dort [ ]is a document that investigates the darkness that now exists within the human frame of mind, body & soul. Ultimately both views point to Christ & draw upon the Scriptures as the Word of God, but as it is with the Bible just because someone quotes a verse or provides some ‘evidence’ doesn’t necessarily mean that the word is being applied with wisdom & godly guidance.

As it was with the Pharisees so it can be with us. As it was with Adam & Eve so it is with us. While laws are designed to create awareness & keep us safe, time & again we can make the wrong choices & pay dearly. Yet in Scripture, Christ is able to cancel our debt due to His sacrificial life that shed blood on behalf of the lost. Heb 9:22.

Aquatic equations

Like a duck out of water
Like a duck to water

Lately I have had a few ideas regarding blogging but nothing has eventuated. This is partly, because of commenting on other blogs, partly work & partly family commitments & partly due to indecisiveness.

Some things come easier or seem more apparent, other things reveal themselves over time. On several occasions I have been the fool who has rushed in or been the late bird who didn’t get the worm.

So here I stand…

about to blog…

again…(all being well)

Watch this space….

The Bible...From verse one, chapter one Jesus is present. It may take a while to appreciate, but sooner or later the passages of Scripture present the significance of the Holy One. Why He came & when He came & where He came is all about love.

The book of Titus takes it to another dimension revealing that things had happened before they happened & are bound up in things before time as we know it. Tit 1:1-3.

@ the risk of sounding nerdy, super scientific or super guruish, Paul, like Jesus in Jn 8:58 declares this unchangable truth as we are encouraged to live by faith, trusting in the One Eternal God. God is way ahead when it comes to the 20th or 21st Century mindset as it slips backwards to move forwards.

But again in the midst of all of Gods omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent character is His love for His children.

Let your light shine in the post modern world lost in relativity.
