Music to my ears.

The miracle of life & the miracle of creation are powerful displays of God’s wisdom, intelligence & order. Every day I live & breathe amongst the outcome of disobedience & rebellion, the consequence of humanities disobedience upon the whole world. Each night, each day life & death turns like pages towards an end and a beginning. It’s a big book this small world. Then lulled like a lullaby we fall into the dream where nature is all there is, everything just stays the same & you do as you please or what you can get away with.

The call to faith in Christ is as much a call to wake up & to rise from the dead & the deadened things that cling to our being like a rotting corpse or a spaced out zombie in a miserable limbo of non-existence. Without God that is what we are, being eaten alive by death from the inside out. Jesus came to free us from the binding consequences of sin & alienation. He came to restore & redeem. Rev 22:1-5.

For better or worse, in plenty or in want

Extra shifts of late, more money in the bank for when it needs to come out of the bank. Enter account details, enter pin, transaction approved, would you like a receipt says the lifeless machine. Round & round the square monopoly board I go, a card that says car broken down/ time to get out the tool box and one that says wake up at three in the morning to take your wife to the airport. Mine has a church & providence among other things as I travel along, a sun & moon & mountains. The economic system & the solar system all in God’s hands. As it was with Joseph in Egypt so it is with all God’s children. Psalm 121:1-8.

Super Power

A pluralistic society is like living in a divided house or kingdom, ultimately there is no real peace there. The natural instinct that assumes a Utopian ideal is merely a dream. It’s on the wrong side of history & human nature when all Eternity is considered. As always, only Christ can truly administer wisdom, grace & justice. So often harassed & run out of towns for speaking the truth…We like going our own destructive ways & will reap what we sow lest we turn to the Christ. Psalm 2:1-12.

Ties that Bind

It’s ANZAC DAY here in Australia (Lest we forget). I didn’t attend the march & service this morning. I could hear the cars on mass coming down the hill heading towards the bowling club. After a time the drummers beat began to reverberate & I would assume the gathering proceeded in the darkness to the cenotaph a country block away.

A little while later the choir’s song “abide with me” wafted through the foggy morning. The speeches were too muffled but no doubt a lot of honour & respect were at the core of the service. As the night turns to day it’s the birds that are into full song, especially the Kookaburra’s & Pee wees. The faint sound of a crow, some roosters & the rainbow lorikeet flocks which can be ever so loud & busy are just warming up before they hit the skies.

Now I can hear the national anthem Advance Australia Fair being sung…a soldier bird is outside my window in a Grevillia tree looking for a feed, a friar bird squawks while I tap away on the keyboard. The drummers beat has hit the airwaves again, it’s a strong sound with a deep beat & steady pace with a bit of rattle.

So my Anzac Day is a little distant today but still appreciative & mindful of the great sacrifices made by many in so many ways, even to the point of laying down their lives to defend what is dear.

Sequential Word. Heaven & Earth day

Dont get me wrong.
I love many of the good things in this world,
even those good things born out of suffering.
And yes we should care very much about this planet
(And each other of course)
But something even better still awaits.
We havnt seen anything yet but a glimpse.
There is a sequal, just one though...

1 Thess 4:13-17.

Sticking to our guns

We can at times make an idol out of what Jesus said (or didnt say).
Some things at the expense of others. John 21:25. 2 Tim 3:16.

And we differ at times, nevertheless we have Christ & his example
so that we may grow in godliness (which is just as important).James 1:19-27

In all this, God is sufficient & Scripture is sufficient.

This town should be big enough for the two of us, no need for a shoot out.

All aboard, but where are they going.

Evolution creates a lot of smoke & noise. It claims to be heading in a certain direction but that isn’t really the case.

The consensus of 66 books & the universe

The modern ruling class will tell you where it’s at, how to think, what to think etc. Go against the mainstream & you will be cut adrift & reminded of your insignificance. God on the other hand says otherwise, He who rules the wind & the waves with everything in them while history runs its course before every person in time as we know it will be called to give account.

There is only one reliable safe place if the truth be known, but modernity doesnt want to know, it is far to clever for that.

Rolling hills & round balls

After a 10 year break I joined a soccer summer sixes comp & have been playing with our son & daughter & their friends for 2 years now for a neighbouring township. This year I have opted to join the local soccer team playing for the over 35’s. It’s over the hill soccer. Funnily or not so funnily enough last year the local council sprayed the local ground with what it thought was weed killer but it killed all the grass too. Officially the club went from the Cobra's to the Coyote's...Two very un-Australian icons. But the field is making a comeback just like me & the showering rain of the last few days has been a blessing after a dry spell of late.

We trained last night, but being a small town our limited lighting options meant soccer was played in silhouette style, hard on the eyes & lots of passing to the opposing team (even with fluoro vests). The all age team are mostly rugby players who didn't have the numbers for league so they opted for a soccer team this year & are looking pretty competitive. Then it was off to the pub for a drink & a chin wag then back home to catch up with family after the busyness of the day...

Bread of Heaven

There are lots of ways to dilute God’s message to a dying world but watering down pure Scripture only tends to be an indication that people need a bland flavour instead of the gospel that is rich in mercy & intended for digestion. The vegetables that I once bemoaned have now become one of my greatest sources of strength. But how often I fall for the sugar coated.

Isaiah 55:2.

Mamma Meme-a Here we go again

This meme appeared on my FB page today. I agree with the sentiment behind it. The body of Christ has a lot of variation & function with overlap or shared roles. Thats my view anyway.

But I hope it is not denigrating the importance of the teaching role that is given great honour & respect in Scripture. A way God uses to bless & strengthen His church lest we become lop sided, tangental or off target. God gives us a body that each part may do its job/function under Christ the head as we interconnect, relate & worship together. Heb 10:25. It’s how we may mature & grow in faith.

Jesus never said go therefore making images of me for memes on face book either but He did say this. Matt 28:16-20 and this Matt 4:1-11.And the Apostle Paul following in the footsteps of Christ uttered these God inspired words.2 Tim 3:16.

Meet & Greet

God's Word presents to us the horror of sin…The brokenness of humanity, the animal kingdom & earth being greatly affected. Amongst all the majestic design & beauty is the hacked misery of our very real condition. Our rebel hearts are at war with God & his ways. Our way or the highway till death do us part is our deceptive dream that we seek to keep alive & kicking. Pride in the stubborn self- will of me, me, me, my, my, my, not God, God, God, foolishly rejects wisdom from on high. It is unwilling to recognise God’s goodness & mercy… such is the horror of sin that it chooses death over life, destruction over peace, flesh over spirit & hell over heaven.

The realm of the dead & the light of life is one thing to contemplate but another to taste and yes, we already partake of this feast. We feed on it & it feeds on us, living yet dying while our spirit resides. This horror of sin can only ultimately be broken by something greater than us, greater than the animal kingdom, greater than the earth & greater than the curse.

The Holy Bible leaves us not in suspense, Christ has come, Christ has overcome & Christ will come again. He has not ceased to be but is making further preparation for the finality of our predicament. God is not dead, that is humanities dire state.

Luke 24:36-49.

Imperfect perfections

We don’t have all the answers but we have enough to know what is true regarding the past, the present and the future if we trust God’s Word, the Bible. Likewise we don’t have to be perfect before we can become useful instruments in God’s handiwork. Knowledge is never enough anyway, important as it is. Greater things reveal their indispensability.1 Cor 13:13.Completeness will come at a time of God’s choosing & in the meantime we still have all that we need. Become a fool that you may become wise. Get rid of your wealth that you may become rich. 1 Cor 3:18-19.

A sovereign system made by God

Most birds that I know of are particularly fast & sharp. Birds or their feathers are often a symbol of freedom or pace. Freedom usually means having the ability to break free from the pack. Many birds fly in packs/herds/flocks & put on spectacular displays of precision. Some of the birds that fly in flocks are also slow & cumbersome but glide beautifully like the pelican. Some birds can’t even get off the ground but they can run like the wind. They have legs & know how to use them. Job 39:13-18.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matt 10:29-31.

While Eshcer may have us thinking about maths,
Scripture & creation can have us turning our thoughts to God.

High Definition

The Heidelberg Catechism, Modern English Version: Lord’s Day 10 Q & A 27.

What do you understand by the providence of God?

The almighty, everywhere-present power of God, whereby, as it were by His hand, He still upholds heaven and earth with all creatures, and so governs them that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, meat and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, indeed, all things come not by chance, but by His fatherly hand.

…………………..

This brief summary of God at work in His world is the total opposite of blind chance & random meaningless dependant on miracle after miracle as bad luck & good luck get lucky & unlucky.

The gift of faith & the word of truth know it to be true. Not only is there a first cause with order & structure of the most sublime but the only wise God understands our struggles & directs them for our ultimate good. The big names in Scripture & our common ancestors of Grace living by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7.

Move over Ben-Hur.

In the auto scene, drifting is pretty popular as it burns rubber. It also has some spectacular crashes & write- offs along with racing in general in the fast lane….

The pages of Scripture, provided by God’s care & wisdom give us grip in this slippery world. Keep your life in check/ maintain it/day & night/wet & dry/ according to God’s word & Grace. Keep pace with the Spirit.

Prov 4:13-27. Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
