Not by might or power

Modernity would insist that religion is man-made, a result of alleged primitive minds unable to cope with the resulting world round about them. This is of course pure speculation accompanied by evolutionary dogma that makes up its own stories about there being no God as it leans on the presupposition that nature is all there is.

If we look at society today stories of imagination and fantasy continually fill the minds of scientists and movie goers alike. Designed to entertain & inspire. Have we really evolved into some higher being as we adapt with our surroundings that are also supposed to be evolving…dream on.

The truth is we need transformation from the inside out, plagued and struggling with our corrupt nature we either go it alone (which may mean conspiring with others) or wisely cry out to God who has revealed himself in His good creation, its present cursed state, history as we know it, BC & AD and His inspired word that moved men that we may have a written account to be treasured as we become all the more informed for daily life no matter the spirit of the age.

It is in the modern world that many rules are made up & enforced to restrict and resist biblical knowledge being passed on and accepted. In the circles of the academic elite, in the lives of Joe & Joanne average and the citizens of eat drink & be merry for tomorrow we die.1 Cor 15:12-34.

Politics won’t save us from our wretched state of a corrupted nature that is programmed for death and sin no matter how many good works a society does or doesn’t do. Education may fill a mind & open doorways and add to improved conditions as the cost of living goes up but being transformed by the living Christ makes the kind of changes that are really needed. It lifts us up to where we once belonged. As the Bible speaks to us...come back to your senses.

The Bible and its big pictures

Life has become/evolved into a commodity of financial and political worth or worthlessness. It is an evolution of loss as valuable information is not passed on as we mutate and devolve. Depravity is depravity, a mental shift where the sanctity of life is becoming less as the sanctity of emotion and human ideology becomes more.

Truth is not the casualty, but rather the people and peoples who believe the hollow lie. Truth will always & forever be truth no matter how many people believe the deception. Games of dominions & thrones, the walking and talking deceived and dead to truth, streaming & dreaming, spiralling into an abyss of flames that will never die and always remain in a state of torment. It is the inheritance of the devil & all his children, it will be a lasting testimony of suffering.

There are no trees there, no blue skies or green grass, no healing or deep personal joy. Nothing sweet or cool, it is the climate change of catastrophic climate changes, the emissions of sin in the world of cause and effect. Satan has no copyright to life or death, to beating hearts or dry bone, the soil and the sand, it is only Jesus who holds those keys in a world of doors that lead to thrones & authorities yet to be discovered. Another Genesis & Exodus awaits, a lost world only spoken about but nevertheless just a real. Rev 1:9-20.

Living in a land of deception.

The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Prov 18:11.

Like dreamers we would like to think that wealth and indulgence can solve our many problems. Wealth, it is alleged, is our great hope & redeemer. And if not why are so many chasing after it's deception?

Contentment comes not from wealth but from God. It’s not as if poverty automatically makes us content either, far from it. Again, contentment comes from God.

As we feed our appetite, so we also feed our souls, or do we ? When in Rome, put on the full armour of God. Eph 6:10-20.

In plenty and in want

I have been on the road again & managed to fire up our daughter’s car thanks to a new electronic fuel pump, a fair bit hard yakka & smelling like a petrol station after draining the tank the hard way without a funnel. Up the valley some 3 hours away and it is field after field of green, green grass (the occasional coal mine) & cattle munching away while creeks and streams follow their courses as birds & bugs do their thing.

Ruth & Boaz

Underneath is a brief comment on the art work which ends with “This story of love and family devotion would have appealed to the German nationalist sentiment that emphasized family virtues.

Family is important of course but so is faith, and what of Ruth, didn’t she leave family behind? There are some things we cannot be sure of, nor do we really need to know. In our searching and wandering, our loneliness and suffering God is there for His children. The God of all the nations & all the peoples is never far away like some preoccupied Greek god or human genius or adventurer off doing their thing. The living God is intimate & personal throughout the ages.

It is something many are not willing to acknowledge as they focus on rare times of judgement (with multiple warnings) within the Old & New Testament. God had laws for the poor & needy, laws for resting the land & the body. Many of His laws were for celebration.

The truth is in there.

I don’t enjoy wrestling & fighting matches be it it male or female. Apart from the obvious staged shows the caged & roped violence is concerning even if great stamina & skill is involved. And yet as kids we wrestled a lot & had fun trying to be the strongest and greatest.

Mentally we wrestle with things too & as believers in Christ we wrestle with spiritual issues that may affect us from within or without. Psalm 13:1-6. It is good to cry out to God. He already knows our situation like a parent who may read a child or a child that may read a parent like a book, only infinitely more informed & aware.

At times it seems ironic that we should have to question God or cry out to Him, the God who sees all, surely He should just act. But that is all a bit too automatic and would deny the relationship side of things. God wants us to relate, trust and be patient, something I am not too good at sorting out, but thankfully the Holy Spirit is.

53. Q. What do you believe concerning the Holy Spirit?
A. First, that he is true and co-eternal God with the Father and the Son; second, that he is also given me, to make me by a true faith partaker of Christ and all his benefits, to comfort me, and to abide with me forever:
Heidelberg Catechism.

2Cor 4:18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Road Trip

The time that I usually have to blog has been taken up with catching up on jobs due to a lot more travelling than I am used to. It has been a busy last couple of months for our family. When travelling I try and take my camera’s along and if time permits, record some images.

The country side of late has had abundant rain with lots of moisture now in the ground which is a good thing even if farmers have lost crops due to recent flooding.I saw some cows in lush fields of high grass, it reminded me of Joseph the interpreter of dreams in pre Exodus Egypt.

For the most part of the trip I was under a car on the side of a rocky road trying to sort out a fuel system that had failed a week before, narrowing it down to an electronic fuel pump so far. Frustrating and time consuming with tool & equipment constraints and an auto shop 40 kilometres away & a bank card that went into error mode.I could actually get the engine to run on aerostart feeding it through an air intake. I could also manually feed the fuel line but the electronics needed a signal from somewhere.

Thats the down side of electronics, the smallest thing can trip a whole system & leave a person or persons stranded. I did get a bit "why me God, why make things so hard?" but I already knew that God's providence was not to be mistaken for easy  street, and amongst the hassles I got some nice photo’s, spent some time with my wife & daughter & met a man who had an old shed & yard full of mechanical relics & kindly opened them up.

The God who keeps on giving

God does great things in the lives of people. Slowly and surely his purposes unfold to reveal blessing. It is mysterious in many ways when it comes to our limited understanding with questioning, worried and even denying hearts. Initially what we may dread turns out for our good despite the hardship.

There must be billions of stories like Ruth & Naomi over the ages that newspapers have ignored or have chosen to edit out the faith side of things in the name of journalism in favour of a secular agenda.

The Bible & God just keep on giving & taking that we may know God’s goodness and love. As much as we may struggle and experience moments of darkness & death they serve a purpose that is divine and not a random equation of meaningful mathematical meaningless.

With God all things happen for a reason, trust in God, trust in His reason, trust in His comfort, trust in the Saviour, trust His Word.

Ruth & Naomi

God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never failing skill

He treasures up His bright designs
And works His sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

( A little insight into the life of Cowper, a man who struggled with bouts of depression)

Billions of people are ignoring this.

It’s hard to stand by & witness suffering, in the bible we are taught that showing compassion is an important thing to do. But that is not an invitation or command to fix every problem and give in to every whim of humankind as if human feeling is some kind of ultimate authority.

Some problems exist because of wilful sin whether it is government endorsed or not. Sin can be individual or a collective co-op of sorts, a conglomerate corporate system that seeks to defy godliness.

Like a fruit that requires picking God chooses his well-executed judgement taking all things into consideration. And thus what is sown is reaped. But that is not to say that all terrible things that happen are a judgement of God just because something bad has happened. Bad things happen to good people & good things happen to bad people. Jesus lesson regarding the Tower at Siloam intimates at this. Luke 13:1-9.

The bottom line though is this. We all need to repent of our sin & bear fruit that is in keeping with godliness. And it’s not as if God has not been patient or not given us a way out of our mess. Jesus came in the flesh for this very reason. But do we recognise His coming for what it was & is & is to come.

The love of God calls us to repent of our sin because it is harmful & damaging to us & our neighbour and our relationship with our Creator. God knows it, He made us and this world that seems so solid as it sits in temporal suspension.

A measure of consequence

This morning I was reading a small devotional on 1 John 1:1-7. It was about a minister who had been in conversation with a woman who had been reading her Bible, praying & attending church but was really struggling regarding experiencing God’s closeness. Upon further converse it turned out that the woman had also been living in promiscuity.

It doesn’t have to be about sex, it could be a myriad of other sins that we may choose to foolishly think that we can fool God (even with knowledge of God as all knowing & ever-present). In Escher like brilliance our hearts have a way of holding our minds in lasting moments of suspension where we create a bridge between the land of sin & the land of holiness. Like traitors and pirates we do our deals seeking our treasures & in the process undermine the holiness of God.

It’s hard to let go of sin, our hearts have a natural inclination to protest & disrupt the process of holiness. Only in Scripture will we find the data required to understand the dilemma. Only in Christ will we find the wisdom, strength & mercy as the solution.

Darkness is darkness and light is light.

Art imitates life

The blood that had power to pay a price
Sprinkled from a broken bruised body of propitiation
From the mercy seat of the crossroad of humanity
The road that is dark with human expressionism
With its palette of crimson sin
That paradise should be restored
Not the plants and animals as such
as wonderful as they are
But the maker in His purity
His joy and delight without a hint of darkness

Master & Apprentice

I have had a digital art program (Krita-free download) for a while now
but only recently begun to get familiar with the various brushes & effects.
The Kingfisher has mostly been smudged for effect.
Less like an illustration & more like a painting.

Good things take time. The prime of life isnt necessarily where all the good stuff happens, nor is full health necessary to know joy & contentment. God as teacher has lessons for his children so that we may grow & mature in faith.

Teaching strategies these days are begining to appreciate the different ways we can learn & thus mirror God's ways (to a point).

We dont always realise or appreciate God's intrusive wisdom in our lives,
yet He has our best interest at heart, such is His love.

Sleep in heavenly peace

One of a kind

I don’t know much about the Sacred Kingfisher but have noticed that they tend to perch higher up in trees than the Azure which will perch & fly much closer to the surface of the water where we live.

It is the jewel like iridescence & deep rich colours that I appreciate. Birds are like kaleidoscopes, the variation is complex & beautiful. Although related to the Kookaburra the much smaller Kingfishers are very quiet & much more timid when it comes to humans.

Their aerodynamic design has been replicated & incorporated into the bullet trains of Japan. Nature (God's creation) is over flowing with a magnitude of wisdom from which we copy from.
